Manatee mother and calf bonds are one of the strongest bonds of all underwater marine mammals. Often this equates to a touching sight of mom tucking baby under her ample tail fluke and steering the little one around in safety.
Unfortunately, protecting a calf like this exposes the mother to additional dangers from boat hulls, propellers and motor skegs. She protected her precious little one, but paid a hefty price.
It is obvious the mother/calf bond runs very deep with a breadth of feeling that is obviously apparent. Let’s help these charismatic duos live in a safer world with slow boating speed zones and peaceful areas to find refuge like the back of Three Sisters Springs.
Sincerely, Carol
PS – I’m trying out WordPress iOS so my posts won’t have to wait while I’m away from my desktop. I’ll see how this works out! Thanks for reading! It is a little buggy with recent updates and I need to learn how to upload larger photos from my iOS device, but otherwise it was quite workable.
